Crown & Sceptre was the perfect spot for an afternoon treat of wine and some snacks. My partner and I found it after a little shopping on Regent Street. It might have been a 10 minute walk from the center of Regent. After many twists and turns we stumbled across it and as soon as we saw the menu we knew we had to check it out.
The atmosphere was really relaxed and chill. The bar itself looks vintage, but with the steel bar shelving and then red brick, it makes it look like the perfect mix of old and modern industrial. It seemed to be a hot spot for friends gathering to share some laughs and pints. There were lots of big high top tables, and booth style tables. I love the mixture of high and booth tables.
They had a full menu with meal sized dishes, and also a bar snacks list. We opted for the bar snacks as we weren’t overly hungry. We ordered the spanish style padron peppers, and the sharing board of Calabrian cured meats, marinated tomatoes and olives with sourdough.
We had no idea what to expect with the peppers, the server said they were extremely popular and that she loved them. When they arrived, I was not overly excited however after that first bite I was hooked. I would describe the flavour as a mix of a jalapeño and green bell pepper, the real star of the pepper was the skin! Roasting them brought a sweetness to them, but don’t get me wrong those seeds were still super spicy!!
The sharing board was equally as delicious. The quality of the Calabrian meats were next level, the textures were great. The spicy one was our favourite for sure. The marinated tomatoes were fantastic! I was expecting the flavour to be like a sun dried tomato, but it was nothing like it. Whatever they marinated them in brought out beautiful flavours. I would describe myself as a cheese-aholic, I can never get enough cheese so I found myself missing cheese on this sharing board. Even without the cheese, this board definitely makes it to my top 5 favourite sharing boards!
I’m really happy that we found this bar, it was exactly what we were looking for and we left with big smiles and full bellys. I think they have mastered what they had intended too here, because of that I would give them 5/5 stars, very well done!
Until next time,
