The Brown Hound Public House is Halifax’s hidden gem! Since Agricola street is always busy and packed with houses and other small businesses, I had actually driven by many times before without noticing it. I am so disappointed that I didn’t take notice sooner! As soon as you walk inside, you’re greeted with such warmth and fantastic smells, you instantly know that you’re in for a treat.
The interior of the establishment isn’t overly large, I would estimate seating capacity to be around 50. There are large high top tables at the end, a large bench with tables on one side and the bar seating on the other side. They truly made perfect use of the limited space that was available. If you read their website, you find out that the owners 2 dogs (both of which are brown), were the inspiration for the bar, which makes it super cute that the fabric of the bench is little pictures of different breeds of dogs.
My visit to The Brown Hound was for lunch during the week. The few tables that were there all seemed to be having a wonderful time! Even though there was only 1 server working, she got us to our table and had our drinks over very quickly. She was bouncing back and forth between the tables, and everyone was very well taken care of! She said her name was Emily, and she was fantastic! She knew the menu inside and out, and was beyond friendly. She is definitely an asset to the restaurant.
The menu has a traditional pub feel to it, however it covers a wide range of other options. The amount of time and effort that went into creating this menu must have been extensive, and all that hard work certainly paid off!
I had the Warm Spinach salad, and my god…. It was unbelievable! Probably the best tasting salad I’ve ever had! Every element mixed perfectly, the bacon was nice and crispy, the chicken was moist, and that dressing… wow! I would have never thought to top the salad with feta cheese, my mind would want to use goat cheese but I’m so happy that it was feta. I would literally fly back to Halifax to eat this salad again! My guest had the same salad and was as impressed as I was. Well done chef’s of The Brown Hound!!
If you haven’t already tried The Brown Hound I suggest you drop what you’re doing and go right now!! Seriously…. stop reading and GO! They clearly get 5/5 stars in my books, can’t wait to go back.
Until next time,
