Classic Jack Astors experience for lunch on this day. Nothing really stood out which makes it both boring, and difficult to write a blog entry about so I’ll keep it quick and to the point. This location of Jacks is right downtown St. John’s backing onto the harbour. It offers nice views of the water and the boats that are tied up along the dock. It features extremely high ceilings and gets a large amount of natural light. The natural light is one of the main reasons my partner and I like to go here, because in St. John’s it’s rare to find places to eat that have more than a window or two.
To start we had the Fried Cauliflower Bites, they aren’t on the normal menu, they were on a seasonal / promotional menu. The flavour was good, not overly greasy (for being deep fried), and they had a perfect crunch to them.
I had the Bombay Curry Bowl for my main course. I liked the temperature difference of the hot and mildly spicy curry mixed with the cool cucumber and yogurt on top. The different textures was also nice, crispy cauliflower and the soft rice and curry. I was surprised that Jack’s was able to make a half decent curry dish.
The service isn’t something that I notice at this Jack’s, it’s always the same. They take your order and bring you your food. I’m going to give Jack’s St. John’s 3/5 stars, mainly because I feel as it is simply average.
Until next time,
